Second Month of Lior Sent

As our Sun Baby enters his second month on Planet Earth, he continues to entertain lots of guests. That is, many visitors are not really guests, but belong to Lior's extended family. Tante Daphne is his mom's cousin, and visits with her son, Sebastiaan (below left). Lenneke is Lior's oldest sister (below right). There is a clear resemblance, don't you think? Irene, one of Esther-Mirjam's colleagues, comes over for her lunch break to hold little Lior (below middle).
When Ome Geert celebrates his birthday, Lior sleeps through most of the celebration (far left). He wakes up for just long enough to eat and then pose with Tante Daan, Ome Geert and his big sister (middle left).
At the young age of one month, Lior is the recipient of a wide variety of mail (right). The social secutiry administration has assigned him a social security number, the bank has given him access to internet banking, and his health insurance has been taken care of. It sure looks like Lior has his things in order.
Poor little Lior appears to be showing early signs of balding (left). Fortunately for our little fella, it will all grow back again at some point. Unfortunately for older men, this does not happen for them.
This shirt says it all (right). When Esther-Mirjam is not feeding Lior or Luna, changing their diapers, going grocey shopping, cleaning the house, updating Lior or Luna's website, or trying to get some sleep, she is doing the laundry. It is amazing how much laundry a little baby generates. Yet, it is all worth it!
Lior has learned the difference between night and day. That is, he sleeps (and eats at longer intervals) during the night and he cries during the day! Mom has opened a box of tricks to keep her baby happy. Lior loves to lounge in the hammock in his play pen (top row), while listening to relaxing music and looking at his mobile. This keeps him intrigued for quite a while. And Lior really enjoys hanging out in his sling (left), in the comforting presence of his mom (right).
Lior surprises his mom by giving her flowers for Mother's Day (top middle). He also visits Oma Alie (top left) and Oma Naatje (top right). Such great grandmothers he has! He surprises them with a mug (left) that tells them that he loves them (right).
Karine, a Radboud University student, comes over to visit little Lior and very kindly offers to babysit every now and then (left). This means that Esther-Mirjam needs to have milk available for her young son. She is building up a supply using the breast pump (right).

Esther-Mirjam adds another trick to the box of tricks to keep Lior happy, which is the vibrating bouncing chair (top). Lior absolutely loves to hang out in it. And it gives mom a good opportunity to take pictures of the various facial expressions of her little darling (left and right). She also happens to watch a very interesting eposide of Oprah while breastfeeding (there was nothing else on at the moment). In it, Priscilla Dunston explains that newborns make five crying sounds, connected with their basic reflexes: neh = "I am hungry", eh = "I need to burp", "heh" = "I feel discomfort", eair = " I have lower gas", and owh = "I am sleepy". Esther-Mirjam wishes she had learned about this earlier, because she is getting great use out of listening carefully to the sounds that Lior makes and responding to them adequately.

Lior is not terribly crazy about the tummy tub, and gets to try a regular tub instead. He much prefers this (row above). The one thing he still dislikes is getting taken out of the tub (left). Fortunately, papa is there to comfort his son (right).
Lior makes two trips to Apeldoorn, to celebrate the birthdays of his sister Sanne and his brother Ruben. This also gives his sister Lotte the opportunity to get her picture taken with Lior (far left). While she finds it very funny, Lior shows a big yawn (middle left).
Lior also makes a trip to Doesburg, to admire Oma Alie and Opa Ben's new digs. Willie and Bert, Oma Alie's cousin and her husband, are also there to help (middle right). And Opa Ben gets to take a break from his hard work with a smiling grandson in his arms (far right).
The stream of visitors continues, and not all of them have their pictures taken. Two that do are Nan (far left) and Kees (middle left), friends whom Esther-Mirjam met at the NIAS in Wassenaar. So much has changed since Esther-Mirjam spent 2002-2003 there!
Aafke is not really a visitor, but gets her picture taken with her little brother nonetheless (right). She spends an evening snuggling with Lior on the couch until her bladder urges her to go to the restroom. What a cute pair, eh?!
Lior gets to give his mom's bicycle trailer a try. Unfortunately, his trip is cut short by a flat tire (far left). His sister keeps a watchful eye over him while mom tries to figure out what is wrong (middle left).
Lior started out wearing diapers for premature babies, then moved up to ones for newborns, and has now graduated to mini diapers (right). He is growing very rapidly, indeed! Yet, he has quite a way to go before he fits into his big sister's maxi diapers.

Hip, Hip, Hurray! Two months old!

When Lior turns two months old, Esther-Mirjam realizes that time flies when you are having fun! Her Sun Baby continues to bring much light into the lives of those who are lucky enough to be near him. Luna loves him dearly, but is sometimes a little angry with her mom for spending time with her little brother. Overall, however, the Sent family is settling into a comfortable routine. Lior likes to drink about once every night, and they all take a nap in the afternoon to make up for the loss of nightly sleep.

Upon celebrating his second Month Day, our Sun Baby visits the Youth Health Bureau for the second time in his young life, accompanied by papa. He weighs almost twice as much as he did at birth and passes all the tests with flying colors. Our poor baby receives his first vaccinations, but is lucky that papa is nearby for comfort.
